Background: A training centre for laboratory technicians of CRIAC--the Industrial Research Centre for Central Africa -- has been officially opened in Lubumbashi, capital of the Congo's Katanga Province.

The centre was officially inaugurated by the President of the Congolese National Research and Development Office , Monsieur J. IIeo, on October 21 -- only three months after its foundation stone was laid.

The Director-General of CRIAC, Monsieur Fallah, paid tribute to the far-sightedness of President Mobutu which, he said, had inspired the building of the centre.

Satisfaction that Congolese technicians would receives training at the new laboratory was expressed by the Director-General of the National Research and Development Office, Monsieur Bokanga.

Afterwards, Monsieur IIeo cut a ribbon to declare the centre open and then unveiled a commemorative plaque. The centre has been built with United States aid and with the co-operation of the U.N. International Development Agency.
