  • Description

After trailing 5 points to 8, with only 10 minutes left for play, the Australian Rugby Union tourists pulled off a rousing victory-finish against Leinster in their first Irish fixture of the tour. The final score - Leinster 8 Australians 10.

Yet, the Wallabies had little cause for satisfaction as they trooped from the field at Lansdowne Road, Dublin. They have not yet shown nearly the form or promise of earlier Australian touring sides and this is their second victory, only, in some half dozen games.

Leinster went ahead within five minutes when Scotts was found a long way offside and Connolly kicked a penalty goal. Then Harvey kicked two goals for the Australians, first awarded against a scrummage infringement and second against offside.

The Irishmen retaliated, however, with a very good try from Hardy and subsequent conversion by Connolly. Stung to action, the Wallabies also hit back when Baily kicked over the line following a concerted movement and went on to score a try which Harvey converted.

The winning try and conversion came from Meadows and Harvey.
