    The Soviet Union has won the Ninth World Championships for Kayak and Canoe which was staged over a course on the Sava River, in Belgrade. Three hundred and eighty sportsmen from 27 different countries took part in the four-day championships. In all there were 109 events. Hungary finished second in the championships and Rumania was third.

    SYNOPSIS: The Soviet Union has won the Ninth World Kayak and Canoe Championships, staged in Belgrade, Yugoslavia.

    Three hundred and eighty sportsmen from 27 countries took part in the four-day championships which were staged over a course on the Sava River, in Belgrade.

    In all the Championships comprised 109 separate events for men and women. The men's 1000 metre two-seater kayak event was won by the East German pair, Kurth Reiner and Alexander Sletnow.

    The Yugoslavs erected new stands for more than three thousand people on the championship site. The start of the rugged ten thousand metres, two-seater kayak race. The event was won by the strong Soviet pair, Konstantin Kostenko and Viacheslav Kononov.

    The Soviet Union notched 142 points to win the championship, Hungary was second with 125 points and Rumania third with 102 points.
