    Spassky, who had accepted on apology from fischer for a nine-day delay in the tournament while fischer reportedly argued money payments with Icelandic officials of the chess tournament, was on Friday (July 7) said to be suffering from the effects of waiting for is opponent to arrive.

    SYNOPSIS: World Chess Champion Boris Spassky of the Soviet Union is due to make first move against challenger Bobby Fischer of the United States in heir 24-game tournament for the world tile beginning in Reykjavik, Iceland, on Tuesday. Fischer--coming out of the tournament hall after losing Thursday's draw for first move--delayed the championships for nine days by his non-appearance, and is the favourite to win the tournament. Spassky, six years older at thirty-five then his twenty-nine-year-old American challenger, had been on the island for some two weeks longer--and reports said he was beginning to feel the strain of waiting. While Fischer, meanwhile, has spent his time avoiding newsmen, Spassky has been training for the tournament by playing tennis--it helps his concentration, he says.
