  • Description

Police tonight (Sunday) arrested at least four people during a demonstration against the Vietnam conflict outside the United States embassy in London.

The demonstration, attended by more than five hundred people, took the form of a march from Trafalgar Square to Hyde Park.

The demonstrators marched to Grosvenor Square, where the United States embassy is situated. The marchers had indicated that they intended renaming the square 'Genocide Square' as a mark of their feeling towards the United States involvement in Vietnam.

However, street signs had previously been removed. It was while the marchers were assembled outside the embassy that police arrested several of the demonstrators.

A strong police contingent was on hand to prevent any attempt by the demonstrators to enter the embassy.
