  • Description

President Alejandro Lanusse of Argentina spent Sunday (February 25) - the second day of his four-day state visit to Spain - touring Toledo, where he was given the keys to the ancient city by its mayor. The president, who is the first Argentine head of state to visit Spain for thirteen years, arrived in the capital, Madrid, the previous day - where he was welcomed by head of state General Francisco Franco. There were few crowds to cheer the two leaders as they drove into the city from the airport for President Lanusse to receive keys of the capital from its mayor, and even fewer people watched the outdoor ceremony in Madrid's central square.

During his tour of Toledo - Spanish capital until the sixteenth century, and famed since the first century B.C. for its steel swords - President lanusse visited the cathedral and its archbishop. The city is the see of the Archbishop Primate of Spain.

President Lanusse also attended a military parade and church service at the city's military academy - probably the most historic in Spain.
