    OVER 30,000 MEMBERS OF SOUTH KOREAN LABOUR UNIONS ATTENDED A MASS RALLY AT CITY HALL PLAZA, SEOUL, OCTOBER 7 TO CALL FOR THE ABOLITION OF POVERTY AND THE REBUILDING OF THE COUNTRY'S ECONOMIC STRUCTURE. A GIRL TEXTILE WORKER PRESENTED FLOWERS TO GENERAL PAK CHUNG HI, CHAIRMAN OF THE SUPREME COUNCIL FOR NATIONAL RECONSTRUCTION, AND ANOTHER GIRL, A CHEMICAL FACTORY WORKER, PRESENTED A RING TO RETIRED GENERAL SONG YO CHAN, NOW SOUTH KOREAN PRIME MINISTER. THE RALLY WAS FORMALLY OPENED BY THE UNIONS' SECRETARY GENERAL, MR. HAN KI SU.

    A STRONG PLEA FOR UNITY NOW THAT INDIVIDUAL UNIONS WERE JOINED UNDER ONE CONTROLLING BODY, WAS MADE BY GENERAL PAK CHUNG HI. THE WORKERS WERE URGED TO REBUILD THE COUNTRY AND REMAIN POLITICALLY NEUTRAL.

    DURING THE HOUR-LONG RALLY, A MESSAGE OF LOYALTY WAS SENT TO PRESIDENT YUN PO-SUN. MESSAGES WERE ALSO SENT TO NORTH KOREAN WORKERS AND THE PRESIDENT OF THE INTERNATIONAL LABOUR UNION.

    A MASS PARADE FOLLOWED THE RALLY FEATURING DECORATED FLOATS ILLUSTRATING THE WORKERS' TRADES.
