    The 17th Asian Youth Football Tournament opened in Kuwait on Friday (4 April), but the ceremony was subdued as a mark of respect for King Faisal of Saudi Arabia who was assassinated late last month.

    The tournament was to have been opened by the Amir of Kuwait, but he could not attend because he is in mourning for the late King.

    Twenty nations are taking part in the games. They are divided into four groups. The games and on April 18.

    The tournament started with Kuwait playing China. The game promised much but the nil-all draw was an indication of the safety first tactics employed by both sides. Kuwait found the net once, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
