    THE BATTLE HAS BEEN RAGING FOR MORE THAN A WEEK AS THE INDIANS ATTEMPT TO SEIZE THE PAKISTANI TOWN OF SIALKOT AND THUS PUNCH A CORRIDOR THROUGH A VITAL SECTOR OF PAKISTAN'S DEFENCES.

    REPORTS ON THE BATTLE ARE CONFLICTING.YESTERDAY (THURSDAY) PAKISTAN CLAIMED TO HAVE DESTROYED 61 INDIAN TANKS IN THE PREVIOUS 24 HOURS.AND FROM NEW DELHI, A CLAIM THAT INDIA HAD WIPED OUT 70 PAKISTANI TANKS IN THE PAST THREE DAYS.

    AMONG THE TANKS ON FILM WHICH FELL INTO INDIAN HANDS WERE SHERMANS, PATTONS, AND NORTON BULLDOGS.PAKISTAN SAID ITS TANKS HAD BEEN USED MAINLY TO FIRE ON INDIAN TROOP CONCENTRATIONS.

    MEANWHILE, REPORTS TONIGHT FROM PAKISTAN SAID INDIA WAS CONTINUING TO PRESS FURIOUS ATTACKS WITH TANKS AND INFANTRY.PAKISTAN DESCRIBED THE INDIAN FIGHTING AS DESPERATE, AND SAID THE THRUST HAD BEEN MET SQUARELY WITH 87 TANKS CAPTURED AND HUNDREDS OF CASUALTIES.
