  • Description

The first Anglo-French BAC/Breguet Jaguar two-seater prototype built to Royal Air Force specifications completed its maiden flight at BAC Military Aircraft Division's Warton Aerodrome today.

Jaguar B.0.8 is the last of eight prototypes to fly and will join S.0.6 and S.0.7 single-seaters in the flight development programme at Warton.

Piloted by the Chief Test Pilot of the Military Aircraft Division, Paul Millett, the aircraft was airborne for 46 minutes.

B.0.8 differs from the other seven prototypes in that most of the airframe is made up of production parts. This will enable flight testing to proceed on an aircraft more representative of production standard. This first flight thus marks an important landmark in this major Anglo-French programme.

The Royal Air Force, French Air Force and Navy are to receive 400 Jaguars built on production lines on both sides of the Channel. Deliveries will begin in 1972.
