Background: Australian advisers in South Vietnam have stepped up their training of khmer Republic troops.

Following the recent defeats in numerous battles near the khmer capital of Phnom Penh, the khmer Government has started to increase drafting into the armed forces, and many of the new recruits are transported into South Vietnam for initial training.

The young soldiers are thoroughly drilled in the basic skills of jungle fighting. Under the guidance of American and Australian instructors, they learn rudimentary attacking moves and the elementary skills of weapon handling.

Visnews cameraman Tran Huu Trong was allowed to film one of the training sessions earlier this week at Long Hai village, Southeast of Saigon.
