  • Description

MR. RONALD NGALA, KENYA'S OPPOSITION LEADER, PROMISED IN NAIROBI YESTERDAY (SUNDAY) THAT HIS KENYA AFRICAN DEMOCRATIC UNION (KADU) WOULD PRESS FOR AN EAST AFRICAN FEDERATION IF ELECTED TO POWER "WHETHER THE (PRESENT) GOVERNMENT WANTED IT OR NOT".

SPEAKING AT A RALLY, MR. NGALA, KADU'S PRESIDENT, SAID IF THE GOVERNMENT PREVENTED KENYA CITIZENS FROM PASSING THROUGH A FEDERATION WITH UGANDA, TANGANYIKA AND ZANZIBAR, THE CITIZENS MUST PUSH THE GOVERNMENT ASIDE.

REFERRING TO THE GOVERNMENT'S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PLAN MR. NGALA SAID KENYA HAD SUCCEEDED IN GETTING HER POLITICAL INDEPENDENCE BUT SHE MUST BE SAVED FROM ECONOMIC IMPERIALISM. "THE GOVERNMENT ECONOMIC POLICY IS FOLLOWING THE COLONIAL LINE AND IT IS BECAUSE OF THIS THAT KADU OPPOSES THIS PLAN".

MR. SHIKUKA, THE PARTY'S SECRETARY GENERAL, TOLD THE RALLY THAT PRIME MINISTER KENYATTA DID NOT WANT TWO PARTIES BECAUSE THE "WEAKNESS" OF HIS GOVERNMENT WOULD BE SHOWN UP.

MR. NGALA IS REPORTED TO HAVE INCREASING SUPPORT IN THE NAIROBI AREA, AND THAT IN THE COASTAL REGIONS MOST PEOPLE ARE BEHIND HIM.
