    THE MARXIST COMMUNIST PARTY OF INDIA IS HOLDING IT'S EIGHT NATIONAL CONGRESS OF ERNALULAM NEAR COCHIN THIS WEEK. THE CONGRESS IS MEETING AT A TIME WHEN THERE HAVE BEEN DEMANDS THAT THE PARTY BE DECLARED ILLEGAL.

    THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF INDIA HAS ALREADY SPLIT IN TWO. THE MARXIST PARTY IS LED BY MR. E.M.S. NAMBOODIRIPAD AND MR. A.K. GOPALAN, WHO OPENED THIS CONVENTION.

    AS PART OF THE OPENING OF THE CONGRESS, A RED FLAG WAS HOISTED BY MR. C.S. MUSAFAR AHMED, WHILE GROUPS OF RED VOLUNTEERS SANG REVOLUTIONARY SONGS. AFTERWARDS DELEGATES LAID RED FLOWERS ON THE MARTYRS MEMORIAL AT THE ENTRANCE OF THE PANDAL.

    THE CHIEF RESOLUTION BEFORE THIS YEARS CONGRESS EMBODIES A SIXTEEN POINT PROGRAMME FOR UNITED ACTION BY THE PARTY. FORMATION OF A NATIONAL FOOD POLICY PROVIDING FOR MONOPOLY PROCUREMENT AND STATE TRADING IN FOODSTUFFS, IS THE FIRST ITEM ON THE AGENDA.
