ENSORE: "Senator Edward Kennedy introduced the President at a community centre in the north end of Boston, calling on those who worked for him in the Primaries to now work just as hard for Jimmy Carter."

KENNEDY: "Re-elect the next President of the United States, Jimmy Carter. Let's go to work."

ENSORE: "After speaking inside to senior citizens, Mr. Carter went outside to speak to a youthful crowd including many students. He gave them a political science lesson. Because Massachusetts is one of independent John Anderson's best states, a place the third candidate could make the difference as another once did nationwide."

CARTER: "In 1968 the contest was primarily between Hubert Humphrey, Richard Nixon and a third candidate named George Wallace. George Wallace took a lot of votes away from a Democratic nominee. The election was very close."

ENSORE: "Mr. Carter said if fewer Democrats had defected to the highly conservative Wallace, Richard Nixon would never have been President and the nation he said, would have saved itself a lot of embarrassment. The President is hoping that as Kennedy campaigns for him in the final weeks, the Senator can pull enough liberals back from Anderson to prevent a repeat of '68."
