    MR U NU WAS THE FIRST PRIME MINISTER OF BURMA AND CO-AUTHOR OF THE NU-ATLEE AGREEMENT WHICH GAVE HIS COUNTRY ITS INDEPENDENCE. HE WAS PRIME MINISTER FROM 1948-62 WHEN HE WAS DEPOSED IN A MILITARY COUP BY GENERAL NE WIN. HE AND HIS ENTIRE CABINET WERE IMPRISONED FOR FIVE YEARS.

    SINCE HIS RELEASE FROM PRISON, MR NU HAS BEEN LIVING IN INDIA AND THAILAND. AT HIS NEWS CONFERENCE, MR NU OUTLINED HIS PLANS:
