Crown Prince Akihito and Princess Michiko of Japan were given a very warm welcome in New Delhi, Nov 29. They arrived by a special JAL aircraft and were received at the airport by President Prasad, Vice-President Dr. Radhakrishnan and Prime Minster Nehru. Japanese children in their colourful dresses presented flowers to the Royal visitors, who posed for photographers with the Indian leaders. The Crown Prince inspected a Guard of Honour after taking the salute, then met waiting diplomats.
In his welcome speech President Prasad outlined the existing friendship and cultural unity of India and Japan. The Crown Prince replied that a long-cherished wish had been satisfied in his visit to India.
On their way to the Rahstrapati Bhavan, the Presidential Palace, the Royal visitors were escorted by the mounted Body Guard of the President. Thousands lining the route cheered them. Immediately after arrival at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Crown Prince and Princess called on President Prasad.
