  • Description

Demonstrations in India against Chinese incursions into Indian territory spread to Kerala, the southern state ruled until recently by a Communist-controlled Government. Workers carrying anti-Chinese slogans staged a big procession in Cochin, Dec. 1. It was Kerala's first major demonstration during India's present bitter dispute with China.

The protest procession - organised by Kerala's United Trades Unions and the Cochin Harbour Workers Union - marched from the harbour area into the city. On the demonstrators' banners were slogans calling on Indians to fight "the Chinese aggressors" and proclaiming support for Mr. Nehru.

Kerala's Communist-controlled Government was placed under President's rule last August after the widespread anti-Communist disturbances.

General elections are to be held in the state next month - when President Voroshilov and other Soviet leaders are to visit India.
