    THE KENYA GOVERNMENT EMPLOYED ANOTHER SEVEN-HUNDRED MEN IN NAIROBI YESTERDAY (THURSDAY) FOR AGRICULTURAL WORK IN OUTLYING AREAS.

    THIS BRINGS THE NUMBER OF WORKERS ENGAGED UNDER HE TRIPARTITE AGREEMENT TO THIRTY-ONE-THOUSAND-FIVE-HUNDRED. THE AGREEMENT IS BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT, TRADE UNIONS AND THE EMPLOYERS AND IS DESIGNED TO EASE KENYA'S UNEMPLOYMENT AND INDUSTRIAL TROUBLES.

    THE WORKERS REGISTERING YESTERDAY WILL BE EMPLOYED ON ROAD-BUILDING, DRAINAGE DIGGING,BUSH CLEARING AND THE PREPARATION OF TREES FOR PLANTING. THEY WERE RECRUITED AT NAIROBI'S LABOUR EXCHANGE.

    FIVE HUNDRED OF THE MEN WERE EMPLOYED BY THE MINISTRY OF LANDS, AND THE OTHER TWO-HUNDRED BY THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE.

    THEY WERE TRANSPORTED TO THEIR DESTINATIONS IN TEN BUSES AND EIGHT LORRIES. THE WORKERS WILL BE PAID SIXTY-FIVE SHILLINGS A MONTH AND RECEIVE FREE FOOD UNTIL THE FIRST PAY-DAY.

    CLOTHING FOR USE WHEN THE WORKERS ARE EMPLOYED ON DIFFICULT BUSH CLEARING WILL BE SUPPLIED AT THE DISCRETION OF OFFICERS ON THE SITE.

    NO FAMILIES WILL BE ALLOWED TO ACCOMPANY THE MEN UNTIL AFTER SIX-MONTHS, WHEN IT-S HOPED THEY'LL BE PROVIDED WITH HOUSES.
