  • Description

The McDonnell Douglas Corporation handed over the first two DC-10 tri-jet aircraft to roll off its production line on Thursday (29 July). The DC-10s, which are in direct competition with....and to the layman almost identical in outward appearance to....Lockheed's L-1011 TriStar, were delivered to American Airlines and United Air Lines in a short ceremony.

Both the airlines will use the aircraft, which cost 16 million dollars each, for crew training. United will be the first airline to use the DC-10 on commercial routes when it inaugurates a daily round trip between Washington and San Francisco in two week's time.
