SYNOPSIS: English league leaders Manchester City went quickly into the attack against Stoke, in the striped shirts. Bell found the net, but Marsh was offside. Manchester again, and this time Bell had two attempts; his first shot brought a great save from Gordon Banks, and after the defence had failed to clear, Bell headed over the bar.
Stoke's first chance fell to Greenhoff, but Manchester's young keeper Ron Healey made a great save.
Stoke's opening goal came after 35 minutes when Healey made another fine save form Ritchie, only to see the ball rebound off defender Mike Doyle for an own-goal.
Manchester drew level within a minute. Marsh let the ball through his leg and Francis Lee scored his 30th goal of the season. In the second half, Manchester City right winger Mike Summerbee provided his forwards with most of their chances.
But Stoke got the winning goal. Manchester centre half Booth made an error, and John Ritchie had only to find the net. The other deciding factor was Gordon Banks' excellent defence of the Stoke goal.
