    FORTY-ONE SHIPS OF THE N.A.T.O. FLEET HAVE ARRIVED OFF INVERGORDON IN THE CROMARTY FIRTH, SCOTLAND. THE FLEET - COMPRISING VESSELS OF FIVE NATIONS - IS THE BIGGEST TO CALL AT THE PORT FOR SOME YEARS.

    THE FLEET'S COMMANDER, VICE-ADMIRAL F.R. TWISS, PAID A COURTESY CALL YESTERDAY (THURSDAY) AT THE MUNICIPAL CHAMBERS IN INVERGORDON TO MEET THE PROVOST, MR. JOHN MACKAY. LATER, THE PROVOST WENT ABOARD THE FLAGSHIP H.M.S. 'TIGER' TO RETURN THE COMPLIMENT.

    MOST OF THE FLEET'S 7,000 OFFICERS AND MEN WILL HAVE SHORT LEAVE THIS WEEKEND BEFORE THE SHIPS SAIL FOR SEA EXERCISES.
