  • Description

Two of Australia's top cyclists John Nicholson and Danny Clarke are living and riding in Denmark in preparation for the World Cycling Championships in San Sebastian, Spain in August.

For John Nicholson, Commonwealth Games Sprint champion and Munich silver medallist felt that in Denmark he could get top European competition and facilities that are not available in either Australia or Britain.

He is preparing himself for a great challenge.

At ??? Sebastian he hopes to best ??? ??? and the Frenchman's eight year domination of world sprint cycling.

It was Merelon who won the Olympic Gold at Munich.

Nicholson lives in the city of Aarhus and works as a machine assembler for Raleigh. It gives him job security and the freedom to train.

The cycling world feels that if anyone can take Morelon's world title it will be the 23-year-old curly haired Australian who has already beaten the champion more times than any other sprinter.

Nicholson recently beat Morelon in a stormy three ride final of the Grand Prix of the United States at the Engrino track, Los Angeles -though there were complaints from the French manager that Nicholson prevented his opponent from getting past.

Nicholson also took one run off Moralon in the final of the Barbados sprint earlier in the year.

Danny Clarke, also made his presence felt at Encrino. He tied with Morelon in the flying 200 metres (218 yards) time trial and then set a new track record in the 500 metres (536 yards) flying start.

Clarke also recently moved to Denmark and is using Copenhagen as his base for the European Grand Prix events.

On May 28 John Nicholson raced in an international sprint at Aarhus Stadium against Peder Pederson and Danny Clarke.

Nicholson was first, and Pederson beat Clarke into third place.

The next day in the International Sprint Final at Copenhagen Clarke was narrowly beaten by Pederson.
