    Sir Harold Gillett, Lord Mayor of London, first British civic leader hosted by Madrid, arrived May 17 at the Barajas Airport, Madrid, for a week's visit.

    Count Mayalde, Mayor of Madrid, and city leaders welcomed Sir Harold. The Count said destiny gave Spaniards and Britons a"similar mission in history to extend European civilization throughout the world."
    In the afternoon Sir Harold attended a bull fight. He had three bulls dedicated to him and gave presents to toreador Peralta and three matadors.

    In the evening, Sir Harold, escorted by the mobile Municipal Guard, went to the City Hall where the Council conferred on him the gold medal of Madrid. Sir Harold presented a cup - the gift of London to Madrid.
