Background: The funeral took place in Istanbul on Thursday of Turkish People's Liberation Army Leader Since Gemgil, shot dead with two comrades in a gun-battle with Turkish police after a raid on their camp at Adiyaman province close to the Syrian border.

The raid took place on June 1st while fourteen year-old Sibel Erkan was being held hostage for 50 hours by two men in an Istanbul suburb.

Latest arrest by Turkish police in their new drive against terrorism is that of Bingol Erdumlu, arrested on Thursday in the central Turkey town of Bor.

Erdumlu was wanted in connection with kidnapping and murder of Israeli Consul General Ephraim Elrom more than a week ago, and is also believed to be a colleague of the two men who held Sibel Erkan hostage.
