  • Description

In Luxembourg the stage has now been set to negotiate the entry of Britain, Norway, Denmark and Ireland into the Common Market community.

The entry negotiations formally open in Luxembourg on June 30 and the first working session between the six Common Market members and Britain is scheduled for July 21.

Prime Minister Mr. Edward Heath has appointed Conservative Party chairman Mr. Anthony Barber to take charge of the delicate task of steering Britain through the Common Market negotiations.

Latest reports say that the substance of the negotiations, which could last for up to two years, will revolve around such issues as the length of the transition period Britain will be given to adapt fully to European Economic Community rules, how Britain will be fitted into the E.E.C. farming system and problems facing Commonwealth countries if Britain joins the six.
