Background: INTRODUCTION: The Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) chief, Yasser Arafat, has launched a stinging attack on the Saudi Arabian peace plan for the Middle East. The plan which provides for a separate Palestinian state, and recognises the existence of Israel, has been attacked by other Arab and Palestinian hard-liners.

SYNOPSIS: Mr. Arafat attacked the peace plan on Friday (20 November) at a service for Majed Abu Sharar, a PLO spokesman who died recently in a bomb blast in Rome. Greeting him was Ahmed Al-Khatib, the Lebanese Arab Army Commander
Also attending were Palestinian Fatah leader, Abu Iyad; General-Secretary of the Lebanese National Front, Moslem Ibrahim and leader of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Nayef Hawatmeh.

In his speech at the Arab University, Mr. Arafat said the Palestinian people alone should decide on the recognition of Israel. He denounced the Camp David peace accords as a conspiracy, saying the Palestinian people would allow no further conspiracies. The Palestinian leader vowed Middle East policy would be charted by the guns of the joint Palestinian-Lebanese leftist forces, and said the political map of the area would be drawn only by the rifles of his people.
