  • Description

A treaty under which Czechoslovakia will provide Cuba with financial credit and technical assistance was signed in Havana, at the Ministry of External Affairs, June 10. Signing for Cuba was Premier Fidel Castro, and for Czechoslovakia, Minister of Foreign Trade Frantisek Krajcir. Also at the signing was Raul Castro, Fidel's brother and Minister of Armed Forces.

Under the Treaty, Czechoslovakia offers Cuba credit of 20 million dollars, at 2 1/2 percent interest, to be paid off in ten years. Cuba can make the repayment in merchandise. A Czechoslovak spokesman said Czechoslovakia was in a position to sell planes to Cuba, but produced arms only for domestic consumption. Following the recent visit to Cuba of Russia's Mr. Mikoyan, the Czechoslovak treaty is another sign of Cuba's drift away from the Western bloc.
