    A LITTLE MORE THAN A YEAR AGO, COLONEL MICHAEL YUNCK WAS IN COMMAND OF A HELICOPTER DIRECTING ARTILLERY FIRE AND AIR STRIKES IN SOUTH VIETNAM. DURING ONE OPERATION, HE REALISED WOMEN AND CHILDREN WERE IN ONE VILLAGE UNDER ATTACK, AND HE REFUSED TO ORDER NAPALM ON THE VILLAGE.

    COLONEL YUNCK'S HELICOPTER WAS SHOT AT AND HE WAS WOUNDED IN THE LEG. LATER IN A FIELD OPERATING THEATRE, SURGEONS THOUGHT AT FIRST HIS LEG MUST BE AMPUTATED BUT THEY MANAGED TO SAVE ALL BUT HIS FOOT.

    ON WEDNESDAY (JANUARY 18) COLONEL YUNCK WENT UP IN AN AIRCRAFT FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE HIS OPERATION, COMPLETELY REHABILITATED.

    IN THE FIELD THEATRE, COLONEL YUNCK, UNDER A LOCAL ANAESTHETIC, SPOKE TO NEWSMEN DURING THE OPERATION:
    ON WEDNESDAY, COLONEL YUNCK SPOKE AGAIN TO NEWSMEN BEFORE STEPPING INTO AN AIRCRAFT AND FLYING FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE OPERATION.
