  • Description

A GBP250,000 (US$622,000) aluminum atomiser plant was officially opened in the Arabian Gulf state of Bahrain on Tuesday (1 May) by the Amir, Sheikh Isa bin Sulman of Khalifa.

The plant, which came on stream in December, 1972, is a result of the Bahrain Government's programme to create new local industries. It is the first light industry to come into operation as a satellite of a GBP75,000,000 (US$187,500,000) aluminum smelter, which opened in 1971.

Bahrain Atomisers Ltd., which operates the new plant, is a joint enterprise between the Bahrain Government and British and West German companies. The atomising plant receives eight tons of molten aluminium daily from the smelter and reduces this to powder, which is used for making anti-corrosive paints. The plant is expected to achieve and annual turnover of GBP850,000 (US$2,115,000).
