    A forest fire near Fernie, in southeastern British Columbia, Canada, July 11, burned across three-thousand acres of timber out of control. Forestry officials say that two-hundred-and-twenty new forest fires had been reported in the province during the previous seven days.

    Scattered fires have been keeping firefighters busy as the hot, dry weather continues. A one-hundred-and-fifty acre fire on the Douglas Lake reach, July 10, was only contained after water-bombing aircraft were brought in to help.

    Another serious fire broke ut at Devine, north of Pemberton, July 11. Flames raged out of control through two-hundred acres of woodland, but were later reported to have been contained an extinguished.
