  • Description

BRITISH DEMONSTRATORS AGAINST THE WAR IN VIETNAM HAD A BUSY DAY TODAY (SUNDAY). WHILE COMMUNISTS WERE PROTESTING IN THE STREETS OF LONDON, THE CAMPAIGN FOR NUCLEAR DISARMAMENT WAS DEMONSTRATING IN THE ENGLISH COUNTRYSIDE.

CARRYING ANTI-WAR PLACARDS, A GROUP OF ITS MEMBERS MARCHED THROUGH EASTERN ENGLAND TO THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE BASE AT ALCONBURY (WHICH IT SHARES WITH THE ROYAL AIR FORCE).

THEY WANTED TO MEET AMERICAN OFFICIALS TO STATE THEIR OBJECTIONS TO THE WAR, BUT NO CONTACT WITH THE AMERICANS WAS MADE. SO THE MARCHERS SAT DOWN AND LISTENED TO POETRY READINGS.

UNLIKE THE COMMUNIST DEMONSTRATION, THERE WERE NO INCIDENTS.
