  • Description

Two military aircraft arrived at Brussels National airport, October 16, with 106 Belgian paratroops returning from the Belgian Trust territory of Ruanda-Urundi in Central Africa. The return of the Belgian troops is part of an agreement between the local and the Belgian Governments. A plan is in action leading to the complete withdrawal of all Belgian military personnel, at present in Ruana-Urundi.

Some of the men who landed in Brussels had as their last duty in the trust territory, the job for acting as Guard of Honour for Col. Lokasa, Commander of the Third Congolese army, when he arrived in Bukavu.

Although Belgian troops are being withdrawn from Uranda-Urundi, the Belgian Government officials and civil administrators in the territory will remain. This is part of the agreement between the two Governments and the United Nations.
