U.A.R. Foreign Minister Mahmoud Riad was met at Orly airport in Paris on Wednesday (January 6) by the French Foreign Minister M. Maurice Schumann. Mr Riad arrived for talks with President Pompidou and other French government leaders on prospects off a lasting peace in the Middle East.
During Mr Riad's stay in Paris, he will also discuss France's participation in a big new pipeline project from the Suez Gulf to the Mediterranean, west of Alexandria, as well as technological cooperation in other fields.
Mr Riad, who has just ended similar talks in London, will call on President Pompidou on Friday afternoon and will then meet Prime Minister M. Jaques Chaban-Delmas. It is expected that the talks will centre mainly on the indirect Egyptian-Israeli discussions begun in New York on Tuesday under the auspices of UN Special Envoy Dr. Gunner Jarring.
