Background: Heavy tanks recently allocated to Greece by America under a NATO equipment programme were involved in pitched "battle" on Saturday, June 7, 1958, at Holarghos, a suburb of Athens, at the foot of the Hymittos mountain. A mock battle, highlight of a demonstrations to Greek public and officials as well as foreign military attaches, included the firing of some live ammunition.

Tank drivers demonstrated how they could demolish buildings wholesale, how they could jump obstacles and how their guns operated. There was also an exhibition of anti-atomic warfare weapons.

The demonstration was organised by the training centre of the Greek Armoured Division, under the supervision of the Greek General Staff.
