Ghana's Commissioner for Works and Housing Lieutenant Colonel K.A. Jackson has asked delegated at a conference of architects from nine Commonwealth countries to play a leading role in social economic development.
Mr. Jackson added, "The present economic situation in many African countries should inspire in you a willingness to make sacrifices for the good of your motherland."
In his welcome address the President of Ghana's Institute of Architects Mr. M.K. Adu-Badu warned that a lot of good programmes planned to promote regional cooperation had failed because the participants had been unable to subordinate their own narrow interests to the good of all." Mr. Adu Badu suggested that the conference should only "bite off what it could chew."
More than 50 architects from Ghana, Zambia, Kenya, Uganda, Britain, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Singapore are attending the conference which is aimed at "effective regional cooperation."
The conference is from 23 February to 28 February.
