  • Description

Work starts in Eastern Slovakia on the Czechoslovak section of a 2500-mile oil pipeline, planned by the USSR and Eastern European countries to increase mutual economic aid. It is due for completion in four years.

Official sources say the pipeline will supply the entire crude oil needs of Czechoslovakia, Poland, Hungary and East Germany. Past of the network will run from Kuibyshev in Southern Russia to Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, some 4000 kilometres, crossing such rivers as the Volga and the Dnieper.

A refinery is already in operation in Bratislava. The pipeline will later feed refineries in Western Czechoslovakia.

Each country is responsible for financing and building its own stretch of the line, which will be state property.
