    The sponsor nations for the Afro-Asian Table Tennis Friendship Invitational Tournament decided recently to hold a series of matches in Peking from November 3 to November 13 this year.

    The delegates of the six sponsor nations-the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Japan, Mauritius, the Kingdom of Nepal, the United Arab Republic and the People's Republic of China-unanimously adopted a communique on July 10 saying that the aim of the meeting was to promote friendship between the table tennis players of Asia and Africa.

    Premier Chou En-Lai and other Government officials met delegates and said later that the tournament stood for "friendship first, competition second." This official film, from Peking Television, shows the Premier meeting the delegates and showing them to their seats.

    SYNOPSIS: Delegates from six nations decided recently in Peking that they would hold an Afro-Asian Table Tennis Friendship Invitational Tournament in November this year. The tournament will primarily be to promote friendship and unity for the people and sportsmen of Asian and African countries, and also for the exchange of ideas and skill.

    The meeting to decide the date of the tournament was held in a friendly, cordial atmosphere. The delegates were pleased at the successful conclusion of the meeting, and all of them praised the unanimity of the discussions.

    Premier Chou En-Lai and other Government officials met the delegates during the meetings and told them that the invitational tournament was, first of all, for the promotion of friendship and unity of the people and sportsmen of Asian and African countries, also for the exchange of ideas and skill of table tennis. He said that they stood for "friendship first, competition second." He applauded the delegates--who represented the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Japan Mauritius, the Kingdom of Nepal, the United Arab Republic and the People's Republic of China--for friendly atmosphere of the meetings.

    The Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries later gave a reception for the delegates in honour of successful conclusion of the meetings. All of the guests expressed the hope that the friendship of the Afro-Asian ??? would continue to develop.
