  • Description

Aircraft at Cairo Airport were yesterday (Wednesday) being loaded with cargoes of food aid to be sent to Jordan for the victims of the recent fighting between the Jordanian army and the Palestinian guerillas. The shipment is the first of a million-pound sterling (2 1/2-million dollar) aid plan announced by President Nasser before his death.

The aid consists mainly of sugar, rice and flour - and will continue to be shipped by air into Jordan for fifteen days. Then, on November 15, one final larger shipment will be sent by ship.

At the end of the fighting in September, it was estimated that some 100 thousand Jordanians had been affected, remaining homeless and foodless in large areas virtually destroyed one side or the other.
