Transcript Colonel Borman: "From a pilots standpoint its superior. It has excellent visibility, handles well and the systems are extremely well laid out and simple. From a passengers standpoint, I think it will have a great appeal, even though #1 airplane has no interior in it, it was very quiet. I think we've got a winner here in the L-1011. I think we have here an airplane, an extremely live one, that'll be very purposeful and meet the needs of most the worlds' airlines for the next several years -- foreseeable future. We're planning on getting our first airplane in February. We're looking forward to delivery of over a dozen next year and we fully expect to be operating these very satisfactorily by this time next year."

Background: Colonel Frank Borman, former astronaut now Senior Vice President of Operations for Eastern Airlines, flew Lockheeds' L-1011 today and pronounced it a "winner....a superior airplane". Eastern is the largest airline customer for the big trijets with 50 on order. Borman piloted he TriStar for two and a half hours. reached an altitude of 30,000 feet, made a low pass with one of the three Rolls Royce engines deliberately shut-down and -- with the first of Easterns' TriStars in the background -- talked about it with the press.
