Iraq's Vice-President Saddam Hussein held two consecutive meetings with delegations from Lebanon and Egypt early this week, in the wake of the Iraq-Kuwait border dispute.
On Monday (26 March), Vice-President Hussein met with the leader of the Progressive Socialist Party in Lebanon, Kamal Jumbulat. No official statement was released after their meeting.
Vice-President Hussein is also the Deputy Secretary-General of the regional leadership of the Arab Baathist Socialist Party and Vice-Chairman of the Revolutionary Command Council in Iraq, and it is thought the Middle East situation figures in their talks.
On the following day, (27 March), Iraq's Vice-President held a meeting with Murad Ghaleb, special envoy of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat.
Mr. Ghaleb arrived in Baghdad after visiting Kuwait, where he has been mediating the Iraq-Kuwait dispute together with other representatives of the Arab world.
In the recent cabinet reshuffle in Egypt, Mr. Ghaleb's portfolio has been changed form Foreign Minister to that of Minister of Information.
