    PRESIDENT AHMADOU AHIDJO OF CAMEROUN STARTED TALKS IN THE IVORY COAST TODAY (MONDAY) WITH PRESIDENT FELIX HOUPHOUET-BOIGNY. THE CAMEROUN LEADER ARRIVED IN ABIDJAN, THE IVORY COAST CAPITAL, ON SATURDAY FOR A FOUR-DAY VISIT IN THE COURSE OF A WEST AFRICAN TOUR.

    PRESIDENT AHIDJO HAS ALREADY VISITED NIGER, MALI, MAURITANIA AND SENEGAL, AND HE'S ACCOMPANIED BY AN EIGHT-MAN DELEGATION. LARGE CROWDS TURNED OUT TO SEE HIM WELCOMED AT ABIDJAN AIRPORT BY PRESIDENT HOUPHOUET-BOIGNY, WHO LATER ENTERTAINED THE CAMEROUN LEADER AT A DINNER PARTY IN THE PRESIDENTIAL PALACE.

    AT THE DINNER, PRESIDENT AHIDJO SPOKE OF INDEPENDENCE AS "THE BEGINNING OF THE BEGINNING", AND ADDED "CAMEROUN WELCOMES WITH ALL ITS HEART THE IVORY COAST SUCCESS, HAVING CHOSEN A PLANNED LIBERTY WHICH CLOSELY RESEMBLES YOUR VIGILANT LIBERTY."
    THE PROSPERITY OF THE IVORY COAST WAS, HE SAID BUILT ON A POLICY OF REALISM AND EFFICIENCY ON ONE HAND AND WELCOMING OUTSIDE HELP ON THE OTHER. HE WAS REPLYING TO A WELCOMING SPEECH BY PRESIDENT HOUPHOUET-BOIGNY, WHO EXPRESSED HIS "ADMIRING ESTEEM" FOR THE CAMEROUN LEADER.

    PRESIDENT AHIDJO ADDED THAT THE POOLING OF THE EXPERIENCE OF THE TWO COUNTRIES AND THEIR JOINT EFFORTS COULD HAVE FAR REACHING CONSEQUENCES FOR THE WHOLE OF AFRICA. THE TWO LEADERS STARTED THEIR OFFICIAL TALKS TODAY AT YAMOUSSOUKRO, 120 MILES NORTH OF ABIDJAN, PRESIDENT HOUPHOUET-BOIGNY'S HOME TOWN.
