    Egyptian Prime Minister Aziz Sidky on Sunday (11 February) announced a war budget.

    Provisions include a wage freeze, drastic cuts in government spending, curtailment of investment projects and a cut in imports of consumer goods.

    The Prime Minister made his announcement to the People's Assembly the day after his national security adviser, Hafez Ismail, returned from Moscow. He had secured assurance of Soviet backing for Egypt's stand against any settlement with Israel which did not provide for complete withdrawal from land occupied by Israel since 1967.

    SYNOPSIS: A surprise announcement in Cairo on Sunday. Prime Minister Aziz Sidky arrived at the People's Assembly to announce he was instituting a war budget.

    Members had been told plans for such a budget were being prepared, but has assumed this was for use if actual hostilities broke out.

    Mr. Sidky submitted his new budget the day after his special security adviser, Hafez Ismail, returned from Moscow. The Soviet Union had promised support for Egypt's policy of not accepting an agreement which did not call for Israel to withdraw from all the land occupied since 1967.

    The war budget included a wage freeze, curtailment of government spending and import restrictions.
