    THE CONFERENCE OF THE KURA CANAL PORTS INDUSTRIAL ZONE COMPLEX PROJECT WAS OPENED AT TOKYO IMPERIAL HOTEL ON THE MORNING OF JULY 10TH WHICH WILL BE CONTINUED UNTIL 12TH.

    THIS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ATTENDED BY JAPAN, THE UNITED STATES, THAILAND. FRANCE AND SEVERAL OTHER EUROPEAN COUNTRIES HAS BEEN CALLED TO DISCUSS FEASIBILITY OF A DEEP SHIP CANAL ACROSS THAILAND'S ISTHMUS OF KURA, AS WELL AS THE BUILDING OF PORTS CONTAINER FACILITIES AND CANAL-AREA INDUSTRIAL ZONE. THE PROJECT IS REPORTEDLY THE LARGEST OF ITS TYPE DURING THE CENTURY. THE MAIN PURPOSE OF THIS INTERNATIONALLY SUPPORTED PROJECT IS TO CREATE A SHORT CUT FOR GIANT SHIPS BY LINKING THE PACIFIC OCEAN AND THE INDIAN OCEAN. SEVERAL THOUSAND MILLION DOLLARS OF INVESTMENT SHALL BE DONE BY PARTICIPATING ORGANIZATION. MEMBERS OF THE INTERNATIONAL SENIOR REVIEW GROUP AND TECHNICAL ADVISORY GROUP ATTEND FROM THAILAND, JAPAN, THE UNITED STATES AND FRANCE. IMPETUS WAS GIVEN THE PROJECT BY A RESEARCH GRANT FROM THE GOVERNMENT OF THAILAND TO MR. K.Y. CHOW, PRELIMINARY FEASIBILITY REVIEWS HAVE ALREADY BEEN COMPLETED BY THREE U.S. ENGINEERING CONSULTANTS INCLUDING MR. HERMAN KAHN'S HUDSON INSTITE. 40 MEMBERS OF PARTICIPATING GROUPS ASSEMBLED AND DISCUSSED THE PROJECT AND WILL ANNOUNCE THE RESULT OF THE CONFERENCE ON JULY 12TH, COUNTRIES HAVE EVIDENCED EITHER SUPPORT OR GREAT INTEREST IN ASPECTS OF THE PLAN INCLUDING THOSE OF JAPAN, THE UNITED STATES, THAILAND, FRANCE AND SEVERAL OTHER EUROPEAN COUNTRIES.
