At some time or other most mothers have been faced with the difficulty of getting to town with baby, on the bus. Of course, if she has shopping to collect, mother will want to take the pram or pushchair. But how can she get it on the bus without obstructing the other passengers? The local bus company at Palmerston North has at last solved this problem to the satisfaction of its passengers, especially the mothers with small children or babies.
At the front of each bus are affixed five large hooks and at the rear there is a special compartment, with stays and straps, for transporting the baby carriages. The frontal hooks take the light pushchairs and five large prams are accommodated in the rear luggage compartment.
The drivers, who attend to the loading of the prams and pushchairs, report that so far the rear accommodation has not been taxed, although, at the front, pushchairs are quite often stacked two to a hook.
