  • Description

The Gemini Six space shot - with its two astronauts aboard - was put through a successful dress rehearsal Wednesday (20 October) and all appeared to be in readiness for the launch' scheduled for Monday.

Astronauts Walter M. Schirra and Thomas P. Stafford are scheduled to spend two days in space. An hour and 41 minutes before they are propelled into orbit by the Gemini's Titan booster, an Agena target satellite will be lofted by an Atlas rocket.

Prime objective of the mission is for the Astronauts to rendezvous in their Gemini capsule with the Agena satellite and to link two spacecraft together. This is an essential prerequisite for future lunar expeditions.

Schirra and Stafford arrived for the dress rehearsal by truck at the rocket at Pad 19 at Cape Kennedy. They were carried aloft by elevator to the so-called "white room" which is at the same level as the Gemini capsule. With the help of technicians they then got into the capsule and ran through tests. In the meantime, technicians in the Gemini blockhouse were running through the tasks they are assigned for the mission.
