  • Description

BRITISH POLICE TODAY (FEBRUARY 9) SEARCHED A FARM NEAR THE VILLAGE OF STOCKING PELHAM, NORTH OF LONDON, FOR CLUES IN THE INVESTIGATION OF THE DISAPPEARANCE OF MRS. MURIEL MCKAY, WIFE OF THE DEPUTY CHAIRMAN OF THE MASS CIRCULATION NEWSPAPER "NEWS OF THE WORLD."
WHILE A SQUAD OF 100 POLICE EXAMINED 25 ACRES OF FARM AND ADJOINING LAND AND FINGERPRINT MEN SCRUTINISED THE FARM BUILDINGS, DETECTIVES QUESTIONED TWO BROTHERS BROUGHT FROM THE FARM ON SATURDAY TO A POLICE STATION IN A LONDON SUBURB.

THE POLICE SEARCH, THE MOST INTENSIVE CONDUCTED BY BRITAIN'S SCOTLAND YARD SINCE THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY SEVEN YEARS AGO, FOLLOWS THE DISAPPEARANCE OF 56-YEAR-OLD MRS. MCKAY FROM HER LONDON HOME ON DECEMBER 29TH.

THE LATEST MOVES FOLLOW THREE UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPTS BY POLICE TO COMPLY WITH RANSOM DEMANDS.

A THEORY THAT CRIMINALS MAY HAVE KIDNAPPED THE WRONG WOMAN WAS DISMISSED AS PURE SPECULATION BY MRS. MCKAY'S HUSBAND, NEWSPAPER EXECUTIVE ALEXANDER MCKAY.

THE TWO BROTHERS WERE STILL BEING QUESTIONED BY POLICE TODAY.

AT THE FARM, DETECTIVE CHIEF INSPECTOR THOMAS, WAS QUESTIONED BY REPORTERS ON THE PROGRESS OF THE SEARCH:
