    Brass bands and cheering crowds greeted President Nixon at Andrews Air Force Base, outside Washington, on Monday evening when he arrived home from his visit to the Chinese People's Republic.

    President and Mrs Nixon had flown to Washington after a rest and refuelling stop at Anchorage, Alaska. They were greeted by 5,000 people and the bands of the Marine Corps, the Navy, the Air Force and the Coastguards.

    Vice President and Mrs Agnew headed the official reception committee, and Mr Nixon's two daughters, Mrs David Eisenhower and Mrs Edward Cox, greeted their father with kisses.
