The twelve-thousand ton, helicopter carrying assault ship Intrepid is expected to arrive at the stricken Ganges Delta on Monday accompanied by three other large ships in the biggest relief operation the Royal Navy has ever mounted.
Six-hundred and fifty marine commandos, six helicopter, and eight landing craft are on board the Intrepid which will also carry food and medical supplies.
The British task force will join other international aid teams going to the help of flood victims in the disaster which has so far claimed 150,000 lives according to official reports.
In addition to immediate financial aid, Britain will offer 500,000 sterling (1.2 million dollars) worth of food as long-term assistance.
