SYNOPSIS: Speaking in Greek, the Prime Minister told the nation for the first time about attempts on his life. The 67 year old Premier told his audience: I must not hide from you the fact that I have lived thru serious dangers in order to secure for you painlessly the right to choose your own government. Repeated rumours have circulated in Athens about an assassination attempt on Caramanlis since his arrival last July following the end of the seven year military regime. However they have never been confirmed. Caramanlis said the campaign must be conducted calmly and in a civilized manner. It will produce a parliament - he said - with increased competence to give the country a new charter to secure not only the foundation, but the survival of democracy.
