SYNOPSIS: In Egypt, Prime Minister Sidky and a group of ministers and officials went on Thursday to see a dramatic demonstration of the nation's civil defence in action. The Prime Minister--centre of picture--is concerned at Egypt's ability to defend its industry in time of war. The exercise was mounted in an industrial suburb of Cairo. Here the men tackle a simulated attack with napalm bombs.
There are a large number of factories int his part of the capital, and the factory workers themselves form the backbone of the local civil defence force.
The key to success is co-operation between the volunteers and the emergency services. The prime minister saw the local fire brigade come in at high speed to tackle a blaze. This exercise was intended to simulate the results of an explosion in a factory.
Finally, the marines, firemen, ambulance men and civil defence volunteers paraded in front of the viewing stand in a display of unity and strength.
